Material Previewer

The material previewer was a personal project/challenge to learn the basics of UMG. My goal for this side project was to gain a deeper understanding of the user interface system (UMG) within UE4, and to create a dynamic scene to allow for runtime modification of shader attributes through an easily digestible interface.

  • Two-Sided Foliage with Subsurface scattering

  • Distance Field Ambient Occlusion & Ray Traced Distance Field Shadowing

  • Landscape Grass Tool with procedural foliage elements

  • Procedural Spline Blueprints

Objectives:

  • Establishing interesting camera shots and experimenting with Field of View.

  • Using the Merge tool to optimize performance when using heavy amounts of spline meshes.

  • Balancing tone mapper effects to enhance contrast and modify highlights and shadows

  • Managing the landscape grass tool to mask areas with specific foliage instances.
